Mural Art Competition

The Arts at CSL program at the Center for Spiritual Living – Fort Lauderdale is pleased to announce its inaugural Mural Art Competition, inviting university artists to help transform our campus with vibrant, meaningful public art.

By cultivating imagination and celebrating self-expression, we seek to transform lives, uplift humanity, and build vibrant communities through the boundless joy of artistic exploration.
Our Mission: “The Arts at CSL” is a vibrant, inclusive initiative dedicated to nurturing creativity, self-expression, and community through immersive experiences in theater, music, dance and visual arts. We empower individuals of all ages to explore their unique talents in a joyful, supportive environment. Through performances, workshops, and seasonal camps, we cultivate artistic growth, inspire imagination, and celebrate the transformative power of the arts as a pathway to personal and collective enrichment.
General Guidelines: These guidelines provide an overview of how to participate in the Center for Spiritual Living Mural Contest. The guidelines are designed to ensure that the murals created enhance the appearance of the center within the community and promote our core values.
- Theme and Vision: “Science of Mind”: CSL murals generally focus on the Science of Mind—a philosophy that emphasizes the power of thought and the unity of all life. Artists should incorporate CSL’s core values:
- LOVE: God is love and so are you. Your ability to give and receive love is a gift from your Creator.
- HEALING: Anything and everyone can heal; wholeness is your natural and normal state.
- ONENESS: You are connected to every living being through an intricate web of divine life.
- ABUNDANCE: The Universe is a lavish and rich place; it is filled with abundance. You are heir to the entire estate.
- SPIRITUAL GROWTH: You are here to grow in your awareness of the Presence of God and to experience the depth of unconditional love.
- SERVICE: Service to others is an expression of our Oneness. It is a spiritual practice of compassion.
- DIVERSITY: We honor all paths to God and celebrate the diversity of an Infinite Creator.
- Eligibility & Requirements
- Originality: The work must be an original artwork of the person or persons submitting the entry.
- Content Restrictions:
- No political themes, social commentary, advertisements, or logos (except the CSL logo if desired).
- Artist Capability:
- Artists must be able to execute the mural themselves and understand mural‑scaling techniques.
- Medium: Initial submissions may be digital renderings or high‑resolution scans of hand-drawn sketches.

- Location: The Center for Spiritual Living is located at 4849 North Dixie Highway Oakland Park, FL 33334

- The exterior wall facing Dixie Highway is:
- Upper Wall 58 ft by 6 ft.
- Lower Wall 54 ft by 8 ft. There are 4 small windows on the wall.

- Potentially the mural can wrap around to include the wall facing the parking lot, that wall is:
- Upper Wall 31 ft by 6 ft
- Lower Wall 31 ft by 8 ft.

- Durability: Designs must be suitable for outdoor conditions (UV-resistant paints/sealants), as Florida’s sun and humidity are significant factors.
- Maintenance: Artists should propose materials that ensure longevity and colorfastness.
- Artist Responsibilities:
- Materials & Equipment: Artists must supply all tools and materials needed to complete the mural, including paint, primer, brushes, rollers, ladders, shade gear, water, etc.
- Reimbursement: Approved supply costs will be reimbursed with itemized receipts, in addition to the $1500.00 Prize award.
- Site Care: No materials may be left onsite between sessions; proper disposal is required.
- Travel: Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the artist.
- Surface Preparation: Artists must prepare the wall (pressure washing, priming, etc.) to ensure durability.
- Protective Coating: CSL will apply an anti-graffiti sealant after completion.
- Timeline: Murals must be completed within 30 days of the start date.
- Signature: Artists must sign and date their completed mural.
- SubmissionProcess and Requirements: To apply, email a PDF of your entry form and mural sketches to TheArtsatCSL@gmail.com with the subject line: CSL Mural Art Competition. Submissions will be accepted until November 14, 2026, 5:00pm. Submissions received after this point will not be considered.

- Project Proposal: A brief artist statement (250–500 words) explaining how your design aligns with CSL’s mission.
- Visual Renderings: At least 2–3 views of the proposed art (including one “mock-up” of how it looks on the actual building wall).
- Budget Estimate: A breakdown of costs for supplies (paint, scaffolding, brushes, primer).
- Portfolio: 3–5 examples of previous work (even if not murals) to demonstrate artistic skill.
- Judging Criteria: Entries will be scored by a panel of CSL board members and local art professionals based on:
- Thematic Alignment: How well does it capture the Center’s core values?
- Visual Impact: Color harmony, composition, and public appeal.
- Feasibility: Can the student realistically complete this project within the timeframe and budget?
- Ownership Rights: The design, as part of the competition, is jointly owned by the artist and the Center for Spiritual Living. The Center may freely use the design and photos of the mural on its website or any other promotional materials.
