“The Velocity of Autumn” swirls around Alexandra, an 80-year-old artist in a showdown with her family over where she’ll spend her remaining years. Armed with wit, volcanic passion, and a barricaded Brooklyn brownstone, Alexandra faces off with her children—who send in estranged son Chris as an unlikely mediator. What follows is a wickedly funny and deeply touching exploration of the fragility and ferocity of life.

Description

“Upside Down” is a musical comedy set in a world where heterosexuals are the minority and society assumes everyone is gay at birth. In this reversed reality, two songwriters set out to create Broadway’s first “straight” love story, only to face backlash and prejudice. As an unexpected romance unfolds, the show uses humor and satire to explore themes of acceptance, love, diversity, and bias—inviting audiences to see the world from a different perspective.

Themes

Acceptance

Challenges norms to reveal the absurdity of exclusion and the need for acceptance

Going Against the Norm

Challenges expectations to expose bias and affirm that everyone deserves equal respect

Love

Celebrates love as universal, challenging the idea that any kind of love is less valid or deserving of acceptance

Diversity

Highlights diversity by embracing different identities and challenging bias through empathy and understanding

Prejudice

Exposes the absurdity of prejudice by showing how unfair it is to judge others based on who they love
