Why Coral Springs teams and studios look to Oakland Park

Coral Springs runs on youth activities. Practices, games, lessons and rehearsals fill family calendars, and every one of those seasons ends with a gathering: a team banquet, an awards night, a spring recital or a PTA thank-you dinner.

The challenge is size. A team banquet for 90 people is too big for a back room and too small for a full theater. A dance studio’s recital for 200 family members needs real seating, a sound system and someone who knows how to run the lights and cues. That middle range is exactly where our venue sits.

We’re upfront that it’s a drive from Coral Springs. What makes it worth the trip for the right event is the combination you rarely find in one place: a 275-seat auditorium, a professional sound and video booth with streaming, a kitchen your caterer can use, tables and linens already on site, and a parking lot that holds 150 cars so nobody circles the block.

How far is it from Coral Springs?

From the center of Coral Springs, the venue is about 14 miles and roughly 26 minutes away by car. The typical route runs down Coral Springs Drive and Ramblewood Drive to North University Drive (SR 817), east on West McNab Road, south on Northwest 31st Avenue, then east on Commercial Boulevard (SR 870) to N. Dixie Highway in Oakland Park.

That time is a typical estimate measured from the middle of the city, not a traffic forecast. Families starting from the edges of the city may add a few minutes, and a Friday evening rush can stretch any Broward drive. For an evening banquet, we suggest telling guests to plan for a 35-minute trip and leaving a cushion before the program starts.

Team banquets, recitals and PTA events

End-of-season sports banquets

A good sports banquet has two parts: dinner and the program. With up to 110 guests at a seated dinner, the Main Auditorium handles a full travel team, its coaches and two parents per player at round tables. The stage and screen then carry the slideshow, the coach’s remarks and the trophy line.

For a club with several age groups, a split format often works better. Run the awards program auditorium-style for up to 275, then move families to the Welcome Lobby for dessert and photos. Talk with our Director of Operations about which rooms are available together for your date.

Dance and music recitals

Studios need three things on recital day: seats for every family, sound that carries, and a reliable way to play tracks on cue. The auditorium’s professional sound and video booth is staffed by the Center’s team, so your studio director can focus on the dancers rather than the cables. Streaming capability means grandparents who can’t make the trip can still watch.

The Multipurpose Room works well as a staging area for costume changes or a small reception for performers, with space for up to 70 people cocktail-style.

PTA, booster and school gatherings

Volunteer appreciation dinners, booster club kickoff meetings and senior awards nights all fit here. The Multipurpose Room seats 40 conference-style for a planning meeting, with a whiteboard and password-protected Wi-Fi. Larger school-community events can move into the auditorium.

Secondary uses we see a fit for: quinceañeras for Coral Springs families, and corporate trainings for teams who want projection, a teleprompter and a room away from the office.

Which room fits your guest count?

Every capacity below comes straight from our rental page. Seated-dinner and cocktail numbers differ a lot, so pick the format first, then the room.

RoomSizeCapacityBest for
Main Auditorium2,944 sq ft275 auditorium-style; 110 seated dinnerRecitals, award programs, team banquets with dinner
Multipurpose Room1,026 sq ft70 cocktail; 50 auditorium; 40 conferenceBooster meetings, coach trainings, performer green room
Welcome Lobby1,418 sq ft200 cocktail-stylePost-show receptions, photo lines, dessert mingling

A quick rule of thumb: if every guest needs a seat at a table, plan around 110 in the auditorium. If guests mostly watch a program, the auditorium seats 275. Photos of each space are on our Oakland Park event space page.

What’s included: tables, linens, place settings and the kitchen

A lot of the rental-and-delivery work is already done. With the Main Auditorium, your rental includes:

  • Thirteen 60-inch round tables, each seating 8, with basic linens
  • Rectangular buffet tables in three sizes, with basic linens
  • Six square card tables and six high-top cocktail tables with black linens or spandex
  • 275 tan banquet chairs, plus two blue linen couches and two club chairs
  • Place settings for 200: salad and dinner plates, full dinnerware, basic linen napkins and water glasses
  • Access to the kitchen and password-protected complimentary Wi-Fi

The kitchen has two microwave ovens, a commercial coffee maker, a double-door refrigerator and a commercial reach-in refrigerator with 26 tray holders. There’s no additional charge for kitchen use when you rent the Main Auditorium or Multipurpose Room.

The Multipurpose Room comes with its own set of rounds, buffet tables, 50 banquet chairs and a whiteboard. Not every table fits in that room at once, and the team will help you plan the right layout.

Sound, video, streaming and teleprompter

This is where the venue stands out for recitals and awards nights. The Main Auditorium has a fully equipped professional sound and video booth with projection, streaming capabilities and a presidential teleprompter. It’s staffed by the Center’s own team, and equipment and operator fees are quoted on inquiry.

For a banquet, that means a highlight reel on the big screen and a clear microphone for every speaker. For a recital, it means cue-by-cue sound support. If you’re curious how the Center uses the setup for its own programs, take a look at our livestream page and the arts at CSL.

Why a venue outside the city makes sense for Coral Springs groups

Coral Springs was chartered in 1963 as a master-planned city, and recreation was built into that plan. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department runs more than 50 parks across over 675 acres, led by 70-acre Mullins Park. The regional Sportsplex adds an aquatic center, tennis courts and ice rinks, and the Florida Panthers do much of their training at the Iceplex there.

All that activity produces a lot of end-of-season celebrations at the same time of year. Local traditions keep the calendar busy too: the ‘Our Town’ Festival has run every year since 1979, and the city hosts Fiesta Coral Springs and a Festival of the Arts. The city’s own history page highlights the Historic Covered Bridge, preserved to look as it did in 1964.

On the arts side, the city’s 1,471-seat theater hosts a yearly Broadway series. A studio showcase or a middle-school band concert is a different scale, and a 275-seat room with professional sound fits it better.

Planning tip: Ask your club or studio which families live farthest south or east. If a good share of your guests already drive Commercial Boulevard or I-95 for work, an Oakland Park venue can be an even split for everyone.

Planning checklist for your Coral Springs event

  1. Lock your headcount range and format: seated dinner (up to 110), program seating (up to 275) or reception (up to 200 in the lobby).
  2. Call Jim Wood at 954-566-2868 with two or three candidate dates.
  3. Tour the venue with your coach, studio director or PTA chair so you can walk the stage and lobby together.
  4. Ask about booth staffing for music, video and streaming, and request a quote.
  5. Line up your caterer and confirm the kitchen equipment list with them.
  6. Build your run of show: arrival, dinner, slideshow, awards, photos.
  7. Send guests the address and driving directions, with a note to plan about 35 minutes from Coral Springs.
  8. Gather slides, music files and the awards list a week ahead for a tech check.

When to book for end-of-season and recital dates

Spring sports wrap up in late spring, fall seasons close in late fall, and recital season lands in May and June. Those windows overlap with graduations and other celebrations across Broward, so it pays to start early.

A practical approach is to reach out as soon as your league or studio sets its season schedule. To see what’s already happening on site, check the Center’s calendar, then call to confirm availability.

Parking and arrival for guests coming from Coral Springs

The on-site lot holds up to 150 vehicles. For a banquet of 110, that usually means room for nearly every family to drive separately, which matters when siblings have other games that day.

Guests come into the Welcome Lobby, which has a Guest Services desk and soft seating. It’s a natural spot for a check-in table, a trophy display or a team photo backdrop.
