Who this kitchen is for

We hear from two kinds of cooks. The first is the food business that needs a licensed space to work from: a caterer between commercial leases, a meal-prep service, a baker or a small brand testing a product. The second is the event caterer who is feeding guests in our Auditorium or Multipurpose Room and needs a real back-of-house.

Both get the same room. What changes is how the time is scheduled. Food businesses book kitchen time by inquiry, and event caterers use the kitchen as part of the room rental. Jim Wood, our Director of Operations, sorts out which arrangement fits you.

What equipment is in the kitchen?

We’d rather tell you exactly what’s here than oversell it. The kitchen includes:

  • Two microwave ovens
  • A commercial coffee maker
  • A double-door refrigerator
  • A commercial reach-in refrigerator with 26 tray holders

That reach-in with 26 tray holders is the workhorse for anyone holding prepared trays cold before service. If your menu depends on a specific piece of cooking equipment, ask Jim before you plan around it, and bring a list so he can tell you what will work. A tour is the quickest way to check counter space and flow against your own process.

Kitchen time for caterers and small food businesses

Many people searching for a commissary kitchen or shared kitchen in Broward are really asking three things: is it licensed, when can I get in, and what do I need to bring? The first answer is yes. It’s a licensed commercial kitchen.

The second and third depend on your business. Scheduling, how often you need the space and the requirements for your operation, such as the licenses or insurance a food business would need, are covered one-on-one with Jim Wood. Call with a short description of what you make, how many hours you’d need and how often, and he’ll go over availability and requirements with you.

Meal prep and small-batch production

Meal-prep services and small producers often need refrigerated holding more than anything else. The commercial reach-in and the double-door refrigerator give you room to stage finished trays and ingredients during your shift.

Caterers who need a staging kitchen

Caterers working events across Broward sometimes need a licensed spot to finish, portion and chill food before a delivery. The Oakland Park location on North Dixie Highway sits close to Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors and Pompano Beach, and the on-site lot makes loading straightforward.
